We are pleased to announce that we are now able to offer analysis of surface swabs for SARS-CoV-2, the coronavirus that causes COVID-19.
At this uncertain time, we know that many companies would like to have more information about how widespread the virus is in their environment, and what infection potential this has. Studies into the stability of SARS-CoV-2 have indicated that viable virus can be detected on plastic or stainless steel and on cardboard and surgical masks in favourable conditions. We can supply you with specific swab kits for use in target areas – either those that are currently still operating as normal (e.g. hospitals, care homes, supermarkets) or those that will hopefully be re-opening in the near future (e.g. leisure centers, gyms, retailers).
The testing is carried out by RT-PCR which will give you either a positive or negative result. This testing is suitable for environmental swabs only and is not appropriate for human testing. Sampling can be performed by untrained personnel however it is essential to follow the instructions carefully. Instructions will be sent out with the swabs and can also be emailed across for reference before sampling. Although the testing is not UKAS accredited, the method follows DIN EN ISO 15216-2. Please see the download for more details.
If you have any queries regarding the test method and limitations, our molecular specialist, Dr Monee Shamsher, will be happy to discuss these with you. Similarly, if you would like a quotation for the work, then please contact us.
